Mabamba, L.Mburo, L.Bunyonyi and Queen Elizabeth National Park
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport where you will be
Met and greeted by our representive. Depending on time of arrival, birding may be done in the afternoon after relaxation at Entebbe botanical gardens if accom -modation is in Entebbe. These gardens offer a wonderful introduction to the birds of Uganda. The gardens host a variety of open country and woodland species e.g. verreaux’s eagle owls, orange-tufted and red chested sun birds.

Day 2: After an early breakfast, our driver/guide will take you to Mabamba wetlands where you will see swamp endemics. Birding will be done while on a local canoe. This will give you the advantage of being able to see and hear birds chirping without disturbing them. We shall look out for the shoebill and other birds, which include long-toed plover, blue-headed coucal, and white winged, papyrus gonolek-as we continue touring Lake Mburo.

Day 3: An early morning game drive after breakfast where you will be able to see game as well as look out for birds. The afternoon is for a boat trip which will enable you watch species such as African Finfoot, Brown-Chested Plover, Southern ground hornbill, Papyrus yellow Warbler, Caruther’s Cisticola, Papyrus Gonolek, Yellow billed oxpecker, brown throated weaver, red-faced and black-collard barbets among many others.

Day 4: Breakfast will be heard early and a departure for L.Bunyonyi, the deepest lake in Uganda. Upon arrival at L.Bunyonyi motorized boat takes you to Bushara Island. The Lake gets its name from the birds that are in the area. Options here are either a bird watching walk around the island near Bushara in search of birds. Both are possible and there are prolific weaver colonies, grey-crowned crane, varities of herons and egrets. This could also probably be the best place to see otters.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will be in time for lunch and then either wind up doing an evening game drive or an afternoon boat trip on the Kazinga Channel where you get to a chance to see migrant birds that flock this area, besides this is the place with the highest hippo concentration in Africa.

Day 6: Early morning game drive to the Northern parts of the park. Not only will you look out for birds, but there is plenty of game as well.

Day 7: We depart early for touring Maramagambo forest to visit the bat’s cave as well as do bird watching for other species before departing for Kampala.

NB. Gorilla viewing could be done by adjusting the itinerary to include one day extra for this activity.
Price includes transport to and from Kampala, Park entrance fees, game drive fees, boat ride on the Nile, Kazinga Channel and L.Mburo, accommodation on full board and an English speaking driver (guide), lunch to and from, Chimp tracking fees, nature walking fees. It however excludes beverages, souvenirs, tips and all expenditures of a personal nature.
Notes for Birders
- Please respect habitats, laws and the rights of local people
- Bring along with you all the film you might need with you
- The savannah areas have lots of light where as the forests have very little
- Come along with enough lens cleaning equipment
- Include a small medical kit, sun protection gear(hat, sunglasses and sunscreen)rain gear, a warm jersey for the high land areas,mosquitoe net and repellant,water purification tablets(Mineral water is available though),a torch or portable spotlight
- In the forests, gum boot are recommended or alternatively come along with fast-drying sturdy boots
- To scan the forest canopy, you may need a telescope.
- All required immunisations must be taken prior to visiting here.
- Light clothing for the Savannas but long pants in forests areas and “jackets”.
