20 DAY UGANDA BIRDING TOUR

Day 1: Arrive Uganda through Entebbe and be transfered to hotel for night, depending on time of arrival bird watching in Entebbe Botanical garden.

Day 2: Transfer to Mabira forest whole day birding

Dinner and overnight at hotel of your own choice.

Day 3: After breakfast drive to Busingiro, Budongo forest reserve.

Dinner and overnight in Forest reserve or Masindi town.

Day 4: While in Budongo forest we cover the royal mile in the morning and Busingiro area in the afternoon.

Day 5: We leave early for Kaniyo Pabidi sector of Budongo forest en route to Paara, Murchison Falls National Park. The morning will be spent birding Kaniyo Pabidi forest and if you so wish for tracking chimps. In the afternoon we do a boat trip –the highlights of this park

Day 6: Early morning birding safari on the game viewing tracks north of the River.

Day 7: Early morning birding safaris in the vicinity of area of residence, late breakfast and then drive off to Masindi birding L.Albert and the escarpment of the Albertine Rift Valley en route.

Day 8: Depart Masindi for Kibale National Park, birding the entrance road to the forest in the afternoon.

Day 9: In the morning we bird the Kanyanchu while visiting Magombe Swamp for Swamp endemics in the afternoon.

Day 10: We depart Kibale for Queen Elizabeth in the morning doing a game drive enroute. We do afternoon birding in the crater area.

Day 11: In the morning we bird L.Kikorongo and Kasenyi track and enjoy an afternoon boat trip on the Kazinga channel.

Day 12: Depart for Buhoma Bwindi and bird the camp area in the afternoon.

Day 13: We leave very early and use the waterfall trail, walking slowly back along the main track. In the afternoon we bird the main track

Day 14: Early departure for Ruhija, birding the Neck for a few hours. The afternoon we bird along the road towards Kabale.

Day 15: We bird the long trail to Mubwindi swamp, and the afternoon is spent around Ruhija.

Day 16: We depart for Lake Bunyonyi while birding along the route. Afternoon birding on the Island.

Dinner and overnight at Bushara Island camp/Overland camp.

Day 17: Early morning birding on the Island to see birds we may have missed in the afternoon the previous day. The afternoon is spent birding the neighboring Islands or canoeing on L.Bunyonyi.

Day 18: We depart Lake Bunyonyi for Lake Mburo National Park and we bird along the entrance to the Park. The evening is reserved for a boat trip on the Lake for more birding and game viewing.

Day 19: Early morning birding along the Lakeside track and the Kigambira loop.

Dinner and overnight at accommodation of your choice.

Day 20: We depart early for Kampala stopping over at the Equator for photographs. Time allowing we visit Mabamba swamp for the elusive shoebill.

notes for birders

NB. mountain Gorilla tracking could be done by adjusting the itinerary to include one day extra for this activity.

Price includes transport to and from Kampala, Park entrance fees, game drive fees, boat ride on the Nile, Kazinga Channel and Lake Mburo, accommodation on full board and an English speaking driver (guide), lunch to and from, Chimp tracking fees, nature walks fees. It however excludes beverages, souvenirs, tips and all expenditures of a personal nature.

Notes for Bird watchers

  1. Please respect habitats, laws and the rights of local people
  2. Bring along with you all the film you might need with you
  3. The savannah areas have lots of light where as the forests have very little
  4. Come along with enough lens cleaning equipment
  5. Include a small medical kit, sun protection gear(hat, sunglasses and sunscreen)rain gear, a warm jersey for the high land areas,mosquitoe net and repellant,water purification tablets(Mineral water is available though),a torch or portable spotlight
  6. In the forests, gum boot are recommended or alternatively come along with fast-drying sturdy boots
  7. To scan the forest canopy, you may need a telescope.
  8. All required immunisations must be taken prior to visiting here.
  9. Light clothing for the Savannas but long pants in forests areas and “jackets”.
