GARAMA CAVES EXPLORATION AND BIRD WATCHING

Day 1:Meet and greet at respective accommodations and then drive southwest to Mashing National Park via Mbarara. There will be a brief stop over at the Equator for photographs and in Mbarara for Lunch.

Dinner and overnight at accommodation of your choice.

Day 2:Visit the Garama caves in the morning where the Batwa (who were warriors) once lived and fought their neighbors, the Bantu. Your guide will explain how the Batwa lived and fought in this cave. The cave is 342 metres in length and 14 metres deep and is now inhabited only by bats. Thae walk to and from the cave passes through montane woodland, with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the scenery or watch birds.

Difficulty: Easy.You will need boots, as the floor of the cave is muddy.
Bring a flashlight along. The guide will have a lamp though.

Hiking time: Round trip takes 3 hrs.

Distance: 4 kms.

Elevation gain: Very little.

The evening will be reserved for bird watching along the edge of the park. A stroll along the buffalo wall toward the Congo will take you through a wetland area where Ibis, whydah, speckled mouse bird, and fire finch are found. Stone chart, grey capped warbler, waxbills and yellow-vented bulbul are often seen around the campground. The guide knows where the best spots are.
Do not forget your binoculars!
Birding will be from 5.00 p.m to 6.00p.m.

Day 3:Depart for Kampala via Lake Bunyonyi with memories  the previous days experience.
